“Weddings are by far, my favourite events to perform at. Delivering music that engages and connects with the wide range of guests that weddings bring is a challenge, but it’s one that I love. My own tastes in music are extremely varied and ever expanding, weddings give me a great opportunity to play tracks from every generation. I love finding creative ways to move between genres or to present familiar classics with a new flavour through the use of remixes.
My favourite part is the connections that I make with guests and especially the new couple through the night. Things to consider…
Mixing matters! Maintaining interest and energy on a dance floor can be a challenge. For the modern audience, attention spans have gotten lower and expectations have gotten higher. Using digital decks to manipulate and control audio allows a DJ to deliver the parts of songs that matter while avoiding boring intros, drawn out endings or awkward silences between tracks. Once the party starts you’ll see me manually mixing between songs in fun, creative and sometimes surprising ways.
Style matters! You’ve picked out your perfect wedding venue, you’ve paid for professional photographers and videographers to capture your day at its best. Would you want your first dance photos to be ruined by a DJ’s inappropriate lighting? Red laser dots on your face and a scruffy, outdated speaker set looming over you could easily ruin a great photo! That’s why I take pride in providing stylish, modern setups that use tasteful lighting to complement your venue and themes.
Music Matters! Setting the right soundtrack to your evening can make or break your party. Having the right conversations prior to the event is essential to ensuring you get the party of your dreams. During our pre-event consultation we discuss your tastes, expectations and the all important ‘do not play!’ list.
Weddings don’t have to be cheesy, but a little bit can sometimes help! I strive to not be the cliche, cheesy wedding DJ and love playing music that breaks out of that stereotype - But, that doesn’t mean I won’t play some party cheese if the moment is right and my clients have requested it. Having a selection of older party classics can be a big help in keeping multiple generations engaged and entertained.
